The CWA would like to congratulate Minister Gayle Tierney on her appointment to the Water portfolio. As Victoria continues to march toward a water constrained future, a future that is seeing significant reductions in inflows into our catchments, the move toward climate-independent sources of water for our growing population will need to be strong leadership.
The CWA represents waterway advocacy groups across southern Victoria. There is a strong sense within this community that our vital waterways are often overlooked, with water policy discussions largely shaped by concerns in the Northern Basins.
We urge the minister to engage with the many voices across the state who are witnessing firsthand the impacts of climate change and over-extraction on the waterways they fight to protect.
The CWA would like to also thank Minister Harriet Shing who has moved from Water to other government portfolios. Minister Shing took the opportunity over her term as Minister for Water to speak directly with the Concerned Waterway Alliance directly and made herself to discuss matters with individual group members and their organisations.
