Urban Waterways Alliance – Submission to ‘Planning for our Waterways’ March 2025

The Urban Waterways Alliance (UWA), a coalition of six not-for-profit waterway advocacy groups, has submitted recommendations to Planning for our Waterways to ensure stronger protections for Melbourne’s urban rivers and creeks. While supportive of the proposed Significant Landscape Overlay (SLO), UWA highlights key gaps that must be addressed, including the need for broader ecological protections, improved stormwater management, and clearer planning guidelines. The submission calls for stronger Traditional Owner engagement, expanded protections beyond major waterways, and better public consultation. UWA remains committed to working with the government to safeguard these vital urban ecosystems.
