The Concerned Waterways Alliance (CWA) welcomed to opportunity to respond to Infrastructure Victoria’s Draft 30-Year Infrastructure Strategy for recognising the current and growing threats to our rivers, wetlands, and waterways.
In our submission, we supported the push for climate-resilient water supplies and stronger protection of environmental flows—but we call for urgent, stronger action. We highlighted the need for major investment in wastewater treatment, restoration of stressed rivers, better stormwater capture, fairer water pricing, and smarter agricultural practices.
We urge that new water infrastructure must not only meet demand but also restore river health and strengthen climate resilience.
Key priorities we highlight:
- Integrated Water Management that frees water for rivers
- Immediate investment in manufactured water and stormwater reuse
- Wider riparian zones to boost biodiversity and public health
- Whole-of-catchment planning for climate change adaptation
- Better environmental safeguards for energy projects impacting waterways
